Mankind has always been fascinated by the concept of time. Everything in existence will succumb to this unyielding and almighty force sooner or later. Many books, movies and series have addressed time travel and similar concepts, but according to contemporary science, it’s pretty much impossible to follow in the footsteps of Doctor Who and his fellow time travellers.

To give our life a bit of a structure, we've divided time up into seconds, minutes and hours. Hourglasses have become a tried and tested method of measuring time since the early 14th century. The simple method ? two connected chambers made out of glass and some type of fine grain running through the connection ? is still in use in modern times. It teaches children to brush their teeth for the proper amount of time, helps people in the kitchen and can be used as decoration on your desk as well.

Our Magnetic Hourglass definitely falls into the last category. This timeless technology (badum-tss...) is taken to the next level by adding in magnetic iron shavings and a magnet in the wooden base. Simply pick up the hourglass, turn it over and place it onto the magnet. The shavings will start to drop down over the course of a minute and form fascinating patterns. As soon as you lift the hourglass up again, they'll lose their magnetic charge.
